Radiator Style Heat Exchangers

Radiator-style heat exchangers are commonly used in industrial cooling and heat rejection applications, including engine jacket water, hydraulic fluid cooling, compressed air aftercooling, and process fluid temperature control. Over time, these units can experience fouling on both the air and fluid sides, reducing airflow, restricting fluid flow, and decreasing overall heat transfer efficiency.

Air-side contaminants such as dust, debris, oils, and biological matter can accumulate on fin surfaces and restrict airflow through the core. On the fluid side, scale, corrosion byproducts, biological growth, and process contamination can build up within the tubes and reduce cooling performance. If left unaddressed, these conditions can lead to higher operating temperatures and increased stress on equipment.

Carolina PEC provides engineered cleaning services for radiator-style heat exchangers based on the type of fouling, core design, and metallurgy of the unit. Our cleaning processes are selected to effectively remove contamination while protecting delicate fin surfaces and core materials, including copper, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel.

Core condition can also be assessed during the cleaning process to identify corrosion, pitting, or physical damage that may have been hidden by accumulated fouling. By restoring cleanliness and providing a clearer understanding of the exchanger’s condition, Carolina PEC helps maintenance teams improve heat transfer performance, support reliable operation, and make informed repair or replacement decisions.
